Oh dear god.

And, possibly, even, Dear God….

Wow…pathetic.

Adventure in incense making!

So as you know, I’m pagan and I enjoy making my own stuff. Plus I like to know what is in things I use. What can I say, I’m picky like that. But to go along with my pagan part of life I wanted to make my own incense for observances.

The two I wanted to start with is one for Moon events and another for the Summer Solstice coming up. Of course I decided that I would hand grind these with the mortar and pestle I bought recently.

Glorious weekend!

I swear I wear deodorant.

So Saturday was a fabulous day of Roller Derby. I was more nervous than I have ever been to play a bout, except maybe my first. I was playing my old league, Providence Roller Derby. It was a league that was very hard to move away from, and I wanted to make them proud. I wanted to show them how much I’ve grown as a skater. My team did not win but we had a blast skating with them.

Then our A teams battled it out. It was an extremely close bout the whole time. I seriously almost chewed my fingers off. I was pacing and had to leave the room at least once. In the end our team prevailed. It was quite the milestone considering that CTRG has never beat PRD. It was overdue. Both teams fought so damn hard. *hugs* to both sides!!

After a crazy day of roller derby I headed to the farm to visit my dear friends for a short period of time before crashing at Jess and Bruce’s house. It was nice to briefly see the Folken together in their element.

Today has been a day with nature. We woke and had a wonderful breakfast made by Jess. The boy and I picked 3 tractor bucket loads of rocks out of the field where our garden will be, among other farm projects. The sun beat down, but the sweat and soreness was worth it. I can’t wait to plant next weekend.

After planting in our friend’s garden I got to witness something new. I got to watch a swarm of honey bees. It’s beautiful hearing them buzz in a big ball in the sky. Mainly because it means they are happy. Maybe there is a new queen to lead them. Hopefully the beekeeper can start another hive.

All in all, this weekend was a success. Can’t ask for anything better.

I gave my first ever commencement speech to the graduating class of 2012 at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

I think I told them everything important that I knew about going out into the world and being an artist, so I may never need to give another one.

I wish he was at my college graduation. We had a long winded boring guy that spoke FOREVER. Probably almost an hour about nothing. He was from Portugal and we really wanted him to go back. Neil, I’m going to pretend this is what I had to endure because it’s a way cooler and happier memory. Make good art.

Why isn’t it Friday? Or Saturday?

So I let the lovely Medusa out today. She hung out with me for a bit, but got bored while I was on the computer. Since she headed for the coffee table I closed the door to the porch so she could safely lounge while the cats were trapped out there. Here she is gazing out the porch door while relaxing.

In other news, last night I fell right on Eb’s skate in practice and it produced a huge bright purple bruise. I have to sit crooked. Skating was worth it though. It was a great scrimmage night. A wise woman once mentioned how Roller Derby is the abusive boyfriend you can’t give up. She is so damn right.

Disconnected

So I’ve been feeling a little spiritually disconnected as of late. I was so much better at keeping little habits up when I didn’t have to barricade my altar. My small cat Io is very curious and already broke a gift from a dear friend. My altar space is really a great space, but it’s a piece of furniture that is very kitty enticing. Nothing is safe. I know some people are ok with their cats up there but mine will play with and break all the things. Trust me. Zeus gets a kick at looking at you while he bats things off of tables and whatnot.

My lifelong issue is that I suffer intensely from out of sight out of mind. If it is not in view, it is straight up forgotten. This could be my knitting, crafts, work, lists, EVERYTHING. Things have to be in my face or they don’t get done or tended too.

So this is why the altar is neglected. I have a foot stool in the way and a couple of other things to keep everything safe. It would be nice to have this elaborate shelf that hung on the wall but we don’t plan to live here all that much longer.

Any anti-cat remedies for your sacred space?

Crisis is over

So knitting and I are back on speaking terms. I put that sweater in hibernation and took out some neglected wrist warmers that I needed to finish. They are done, but the final touches will wait for right now. I then started another set in a pretty mustard color. There will be pics when they finishing touches are all there. Yay inventory!

Seriously?! brought to you by the next generation.

  • Girl on the phone: I'd like to open an account. What do I need?
  • Me: A state issued ID.
  • Girl on the phone: I only have a social security card and my birth certificate. Is that enough?
  • Me: Only if you are doing a custodial account with your parents.
  • Girl on the phone: What if I bring those and show you my Facebook?
  • Me: ...*mental facepalm then answers calmly* Facebook is not a legal form of ID.

Won’t keep my down

Screw that failed sweater! It can go in hibernation. This week I’m been really inspired to create my inventory to sell. I’m working on a set of handwarmers that have been 70% finished for a while. I’m almost done and all they will need is buttons. So it begins.

I took another step in the right direction. I registered my business name with the city. So that means I will get my tax id next week when I get paid. Darn fair wants it. It’s a pretty penny but it will be good for 5 years. I can live with that. I’m sure I’ll make it back in sales.

I also bought a small canvas to make the sign for my booth. I have a fun mixed media design in mind. I’ll be sketching it out first.

I love when the creative juices are flowing.

Ugh, sweater fail.

Sweater pattern
Had some doubts about this sweater and well, I was right. The pieces sewed together beautifully but she sizing is off. Medium my ass! Well onto inventory. The sweater and I are in a fight. It will have to be revisited at a later date. Ugh.

By the way, while Caron Sheep(ish) is pretty, it sucks to knit with. The twist is loose so the fibers bind when you are frogging. The fibers even gather up here and there. I’m sure it would be fabulous for felting though.

Rant is over. Ill just knit new front pieces with measurements I decide.
